Sania in light of controversies

Sania Mirza, the famous tennis star of India was born November 15, 1986, in India. She began her tennis career in 2003.

Sania came into the limelight after winning the Arjuna Award in 2004. Mirza started her career  in the Indian Fed Cup,by  winning all three singles matches. Then she marched on to win the   2003 Wimbledon Championship Girls' Doubles title,by teaming up with Alisa Kleybanova of Russia.

Sania , more than her game became famous for her glamour, she wears short tennis clothes which fetched her more fans. It also drew more criticism from some muslim religious groups. But, the criticism can be neglected in lieu of the good game she plays. After Mirza spoke at a conference on safe sex in November 2005, she was accused of corrupting influence on youth. Whether she opposed or suppored pre-marital sex is still a controversy, but  Mirza clarified her stance by saying that she was opposed to pre-marital sex.

A picture of Mirza  resting her feet and showing the soles of her bare feet, with an Indian Flag in front as she watched compatriot Rohan Bopanna play in the 2008 Hopman Cup, again raised controversies. She faced possible prosecution under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour act, after a private citizen complained.

Again on February 4, 2008, Mirza  claimed that she would stop appearing in tennis tournaments held in India, owing to the series of controversies and upon advice by her manager
